THAI

D-TECH is a state of the art technology  that gets more power out of an amplifier with less wasted energy than was ever before possible, and offering one of the cleanest, crispest sounds of any other amplifiers on the market.

D-TECH is a power amplifier design that is highly advanced and which delivers a tremendous amount of power for its size. It generates very little heat, and provides a crystal-clear, tight sound.  We combine the advantages of analog and digital amplifiers without compromising. It results in one of the most user-friendly amplifiers available on the market.

Our digital amplifiers convert the analog input signals into digital signals before the signal is amplifed. The signal is amplified while it is in digital mode, which accounts for the amplifier’s efficiency and power. Once the signal is amplified, it converts back into an analog signal so it’s able to be used.  The amplifier has a clever arrangement of circuitry which overcomes delays in the signal conversion process. This enables the amplifier to compare the amplified signal back with the input, to eliminate any differences and ensure the signal wave form comes out exactly as it came in.

HIGHLY ADVANCED POWER SUPPLY

The power supply of TAFN power amplifiers is one of the most advanced ever made. Specially designed full-bridge topology delivers high power constantly without overheating, thanks to its extremely efficient design. Not only comes with a soft-start feature, but also has a soft turn-on feature at the mains input stage which eliminates completely any current surge when the amplifier is turned on. This allows users to turn on several amps at once without the need to turn them on one by one. This power supply is also one of the most reliable and resilient for a power amplifier.

D-TECH uses a special type of switch-mode power supply technology, which ensures that in the event of fluctuations in mains power, the output remains stable because of  D-TECH’s fast-feedback system.  As added protection, the power amplifier can withstand any sudden cut, drop or surge in mains power. The soft-start feature ensues that after power returns to operating levels, sound increases gradually rather than all at once, which safeguards the power amplifier and speakers.

HIGHLY ADVANCED AUDIO DIGITAL POWER MODULE

Thanks to its extremely low output impedence, D-TECH has a very high damping factor, which gives it more control over the cone movement of the speaker, and therefore a realistic, rock-solid bass sound. Even when the power amplifier clips, the damping factor will remain high, so that the sound coming out of the speakers is still as solid.

In the event of overloading or a short circuit, D-TECH’s automatic current control (ACC) device limits output current automatically.  This makes the amplifier very reliable, and extremely unlikely to sustain damage. The ACC monitors the output current constantly, and if the current exceeds its pre-set level, it will restrict the signal to keep the current within those limits, regardless of how hard the short circuit or extent of overloading.

The D-TECH power amplifier uses switch-mode technology, which generates minimal heat. It also re-uses energy returned from the speaker rather than dissipating it as heat or forcing the amp into premature current limiting. By generating less heat, the D-TECH digital amplifier also dispenses with the need for large heat sinks, making the amplifier smaller and lighter.

GRAPH: Comparison of heat dissipation loss between different technologies

Class-AB  50% Power loss in heat

Class-H  30% Power loss in heat

Class-TD (AB+D) 10-15% Power loss in heat

D-TECH  3- 5% Power loss in heat

The D-TECH power amplifier loses only 5% of energy to heat, compared to up to 50% for a conventional (Class AB) power amplifier. The Class-H amplifier loses about 30%, and Class-TD (AB+D) loses 10-15%.

With less heat loss, D-TECH’s digital amplifiers need nearly half the amount of power to run compared with conventional Class-AB power amplifiers, which saves on electrical installation costs and power bills.

How does D-TECH do it? We combine the benefits of an advanced digital power amplifier and a specially designed digital switch-mode power supply, to make the amplifier smaller, lighter, and more efficient.

Thanks to improvements in our technology, the new D-TECH i SERIES is even more efficient, achieving 3% power loss in to heat, which means it is 97% power efficient, compared to the 95% from previous models.

FULL CYCLE SPEAKER CONE CONTROL

Because of the nature of this remarkable technology, our power amplifiers clamp the speaker cone electrically at all times during the wave cycle giving the best possible control of the speaker, so the sound is as realistic as it can be. Because D-TECH power amplifiers force the speaker cone to pull back to neutral position by clamping the speaker cone electrically at all times, sound remains clear and tight even if the speaker spider is worn out. As D-TECH power amplifiers rely less on the speaker spider, mechanical errors caused by resonance and slow response time are kept to a minimum. Result: Tight, clean and realistic bass and even mid-range. Although this feature apply to all our power amplifiers, it has been enhanced in D-TECH i SERIES for even greater sound.

the secret of clean sound

One reason why all TAFN D-TECH power amplifiers sound so clean is because they have eliminated hidden intermodulation.

Harmonics outside the audio band, which occur mainly between the power   amplifier’s output power stage and the speaker load, are the main cause of intermodulation inside the audio band which then dirties the sound.

Intermodulation takes place due to the low damping factor of the amp at high frequencies, and the reactive behavior of the speaker, especially outside the audio band.

D-TECH amplifiers, thanks to its highly advanced output filter and its signal process circuitry, cuts out harmonics outside the audio band sharply, with almost no phase shift, thus eliminating intermodulation inside the audio band.

Intermodulation cannot feed back into the audio band, as the harmonics are not present any more to produce it in the first place.

Most power amplifiers fail to address the problem of intermodulation. Their specifications say the power amplifiers have little intermodulation distortion. However, power amplifiers are tested on resistor dummy loads, which are not reactive like speakers. So they do not show the true extent of the problem.

Tested on real speakers, however, the difference becomes clear: The sound from the D-TECH power amplifier is better because our technology truly avoids intermodulation when it cuts out harmful harmonics at source.

Although D-TECH i SERIES has special filter for cutting harmonics, this feature is common to all TAFN power amps.

the MOST ADVANCED protection system

D-TECH’s automatic current control (ACC) device limits output current automatically.  This makes the amplifier very reliable, and extremely unlikely to sustain damage. The ACC monitors the output current constantly, and if the current exceeds its pre-set level, it will restrict the signal to keep the current within those limits, regardless of how hard the short circuit or extent of overloading.

In the event of a short circuit, the ACC limits the signal immediately, which protects the amplifier from shock caused by a surge in current. With conventional amplifiers, there is a short delay, while the amp takes the energy stored in the capacitors to tide it over. That delay in adjustment can prove fatal to the power transistors – but not with D-TECH, where the ACC limits the signal instantly, ensuring the power transistors adjust to the short circuit in time.

Soft turn-on feature and over-voltage detector are available only in I-power series, and d-tech i series.

D-TECH power amplifiers are also protected against high frequency oscillations caused by misusage or incorrect installation of the amplifier. Special  automatic control gain (AGC) will come in to effect to limit the signal to a safe levels.

As added protection, the power amplifier can withstand any sudden cut, drop or surge in mains power. The soft-start feature ensures that after power returns to operating levels, sound increases gradually rather than all at once, which safeguards the power amplifier and speakers.
